

The Presbyterian College has a Diploma in Lay Leadership. This set
of courses provides a flexible but structured program for the head,
hands and heart.
The Diploma is awarded on the completion of 20 credits delivered
through 6 hour courses that equal one credit or 12 hour courses
that equals two credits. There are no academic prerequisites and
the Diploma may be completed over 2 to 4 years.
Mandatory courses in the following areas include:
- Old Testament
- New Testament
- Church History
- Christian Leadership
- Reformed Tradition
Elective Courses will cover a wide
range of subjects, including:
- Prayer and Spirituality
- Introduction to Preaching
- Skills for Ministry
- Youth Ministry
- Faith and the Arts
- Ethics in Changing Times
- Worship and Music

We will deliver the Diploma courses in as flexible a way as possible.
Day and evening courses will be offered at the College during the
fall and winter semesters, separately or in conjunction with regular
theological students. Other courses will be offered off-site or
as weekend events. In addition, a residential Summer School will
take place in metropolitan Montreal.
When available, you are welcome to join us for a reasonably priced
dinner in the cafeteria between the afternoon and evening courses.

Questions & Answers about the program
Q: Who is this program for?
A: The Diploma is for Christians of any denomination who are eager
to grow in their understanding and practice of the Christian faith.
- You may be a lay leader in
Christian ministry, whether in a congregation or beyond, e.g.
an Elder, a Bible Study leader, a Church School teacher or Pastoral
Visitor, etc.
- You may be a University or
College student studying various academic disciplines, but desirous
of developing a Christian world view.
- You may wish to take one particular
course that is of interest to you, without pursuing the entire
Diploma.
Q: Can I just attend an individual
course without registering for the Diploma?
A: Yes. You are invited to attend any lay course, special workshop
or lecture sponsored by the College without pursuing the entire
Diploma.
Q: Will completing the Diploma be expensive?
A: No. The basic cost for most courses is $100(half price for full
time students). For more details, contact the Lay Education Coordinator
at the College.
Q: Does the granting of the Diploma confer professional qualification
for ministry?
A: No. The Diploma program is designed for general interest and
does not constitute part of the regular training of ordination candidates.
Those graduating with the Diploma in Lay Leadership will be recognized
at the annual College Convocation.
Q: Will there be anyone to give guidance and feedback?
A: Yes. College instructors and faculty will help direct your progress
and, where appropriate, will encourage you in one area of practical
ministry.
