THE BACHELOR OF THEOLOGY (B.Th.)

Details of the content and requirements of the Bachelor of Theology program are specified in the McGill Undergraduate Calendar and the McGill Faculty of Religious Studies website.

THE MASTER OF DIVINITY (M.Div.)

The Master of Divinity Program at the Presbyterian College, though similar to other such programs in North America, is special in that it incorporates the (60 credit) McGill Bachelor of Theology program. The structure of post-secondary education in the Province of Quebec requires that universities make provision for direct entry to theological studies for graduates of Quebec Colleges of General and Vocational Education (CEGEPs).

The B.Th. is therefore technically a three-year (90 credits) program, though M.Div. students enter it normally with advanced standing. This means that candidates for the ministry who enter the program with a prior bachelor's degree, begin their M.Div. Studies in the B.Th. year 2 and earn the B.Th. degree after completing 60 B.Th. credits, and the M.Div. degree after a further year of studies, i.e. the In-Ministry year.

This special arrangement may at first appear confusing to M. Div. applicants. What is important to note is that the M.Div year 1 is equivalent to B.Th year 2, and M.Div. year 2 is equivalent to B.Th. year 3.

Course selection for B.Th./M.Div. and S.T.M. students needs the approval of the Principal of the College. A Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 2.5 is required to graduate with the Master of Divinity degree.
