ONLINE COURSES IN THEOLOGY – FALL 2020

Offered in Collaboration with the Montreal School of Theology

Are you looking for opportunities to develop your competencies for Preaching or Leadership or Education in the Church? Are you interested in exploring the Theology of the Reformed Tradition? Take advantage of Online Courses in the Fall 2020 Semester at The Presbyterian College/Montreal School of Theology. Courses may be asynchronous (no requirement to gather at specific times) or include synchronous elements (gathering together as a class at a specific time via Zoom). There are caps on the number of students, and so students will be admitted on an “as available” basis.

Cost per course:  $325 (2-Credit Courses) or $490 (3-Credit Courses)
Requirements: Involvement in the Church and previous undergraduate degree.

Leadership in the Church (MST 562 – 2-Credit Course) 
Provides students with lenses to study the congregation, and explores the various dynamics of leadership, particularly in the context of ordained ministry. Taught by Principal Maylanne Maybee, Interim Principal of the United Theological College. Tuesdays at 12h45 (EST) for synchronous portion of class, plus additional asynchronous elements, beginning on September 8th.

Education and Formation (MST 541 – 2-Credit Course)
Examines educational theory, theology and practice, and develops skills and knowledge for ministerial leadership in faith formation and education.  Taught by Dr. Alyson Huntly, Director of Pastoral Studies, The United Theological College. Wednesdays at 12h45 (EST) for synchronous portion of class, plus additional asynchronous elements, beginning on September 9th)

Principles of Preaching (MST 531 – 3-Credit Course)
This courses focuses on the fundamentals of sermon preparation, exegesis for preaching, developing a message, and sermon structure. This course also includes a preaching tutorial where students present sermons for feedback and reflection. Taught by the Rev. Dr. Hilary Borgert-Winkler, Director of Pastoral Studies, the Diocesan Theological College. Tuesdays at 8h45 (EST) for synchronous portion of class, plus additional asynchronous elements, beginning on September 8th.

Reformed Confessions and Ecclesiology (PC 582 – 3-Credit Course)
Explores the Reformed theological tradition through the lens of its Confessional History – considering the themes of church, ministry, sacraments, and the themes of creation and salvation. Taught by the Rev. Dr. Roland De Vries, Director of Pastoral Studies, The Presbyterian College.  Synchonous course, pursued weekly on your schedule.

NT: Paul and his Ministry (3-Credit Course)
Explores the writings and life of the Apostle Paul, in their original context, as the basis for reflection on, and understanding, of Christian ministry today.  Taught by a Guest Lecturer, to be confirmed. Weekday evening course. (Dates to be confirmed.)

Cost per course:  $325 (2-Credit Courses) or $490 (3-Credit Courses)
Requirements: Involvement in the Church and previous undergraduate degree. There will also be applications questions particular to each course, given the nature and requirements of each.
