Professor of Pastoral Leadership – Position Open

The Board of Governors of The Presbyterian College, seeks to fill the position of Professor of Pastoral Leadership. A Search Committee of the Board is accepting applications at this time and will begin to review these as of the beginning of March. The successful candidate is expected to take up duties of the position and join the College community as of Summer, 2021.


The Presbyterian College, Montreal is one of three theological colleges of The Presbyterian Church in Canada. It is a member of the Montreal School of Theology and, through that membership, is affiliated with the School of Religious Studies, McGill University. Established in 1865, the primary purpose of the college is to shape transformational leaders who contribute to the renewal of Christ’s church and to God’s mission in the world. The Board is seeking a candidate who has a passion and commitment for the development of pastoral leaders committed to vital and missional congregations. Further, a candidate who brings pastoral experience and theological depth to the task of theological education.

Primary Areas of Responsibility

(1) Teaching, Administration, and Program development in the MDiv program — The third year of the MDiv program of the Montreal School of Theology (known as the In-Ministry Year) is focused on pastoral, vocational training. The Professor of Pastoral Leadership works as part of the ecumenical, MST team that coordinates field placements, teaches for pastoral leadership, and develops and administers the In-Ministry Year. She or he also supports pastoral formation programming in the first two years of the program.

(2) Other Teaching and Leadership — The Professor of Pastoral Leadership, depending on qualifications, may also be invited to teach at the bachelor or master’s level in the School of Religious Studies, McGill University, or to teach at the master’s level in collaborative programming with the Faculty of Theology at Laval University or the Institut de Théologie pour la Francophonie. She or he may also teach and coordinate in relation to Lay Education programming or other programming of the college’s Leadership Centre.

(3) Student support and formation — Students of the College are, in a variety of ways, involved in formation for ministry. The Professor of Pastoral Leadership shall support such students in discernment and formation, including through workshops or courses. This particularly relates to candidates for ministry of The Presbyterian Church in Canada.

(4) Administration — The Professor of Pastoral Leadership will be involved in administration, which may include in relation to bursaries, application procedures, conference coordination, or other related tasks.


The suitable candidate will be a minister of The Presbyterian Church in Canada or be eligible to become a minister within The Presbyterian Church in Canada. They will have an earned doctoral degree in one of the areas of practical theology or in a cognate discipline (theology, ethics, Bible, history…) and will have a record of faithful and effective pastoral ministry.

Le conseil des gouverneurs du The Presbyterian College, Montréal cherche un professeur du leadership pastoral et invite les candidat(e)s qualifié(e)s à soumettre leur CV accompagné d’une lettre d’introduction.
