The Presbyterian College, Montreal, seeks to fill the full-time position of Director of Programs of the Leadership Centre. The Director of Programs will support existing and launch new programs, including in the areas of Pastoral Mentoring, Faith and Work, and Missional Engagement. With meaningful experience in pastoral leadership and curriculum implementation or development, along with strong organizational and communication skills, the Director of Programs will support the Leadership Centre as it renews its work and programming.

The Presbyterian College is a college of the Presbyterian Church in Canada. In 2015, it began a new initiative with the establishment of a Leadership Centre. The mission of the centre is to foster the development of faithful and effective leaders for the church and the world. At the time of its establishment, the programming of the centre focused on the establishment of a mentoring program for pastoral leaders, continuing education for clergy and lay people, vocational discernment opportunities for young adults, and personal renewal initiatives for pastoral leaders.

Some programming of the Leadership Centre was paused following the departure of the previous director in Fall of 2019, and then during the ensuing the pandemic. The renewal of the work of the Leadership Centre imagined with this job opening/description is related partly to a Lilly Endowment grant to the Montreal School of Theology. This grant will fund 50% of this position, and is focused on the offer and operation of an ecumenical mentoring program (building on the existing mentoring program of The Presbyterian College). We also look forward to renewing programs in existing areas and new directions.

Responsibilities of the Position:

  1. Direct the Mentoring Program of the college, renewing the program in relation to existing mentoring groups and expanding it ecumenically for the Montreal School of Theology.
  2. Develop an online Faith and Work curriculum for use in congregational and other contexts, support the implementation of the curriculum in such contexts.
  3. Develop an online Missional Engagement curriculum for use in congregational and other contexts, and support the implementation of the curriculum in such contexts.
  4. Develop and offer new and innovative programs that align with the mission of the Centre.
  5. Participate in and support the community and worship life of the college.
  6. Support the online lay education program of the college, as appropriate.
  7. Manage existing grants for support of the Leadership Centre and explore and obtain of funding from new funding body.
  8. Build networks and relationships with other institutions that can aide in advancing the goals of the Leadership Centre.
  9. Work collaboratively with the faculty and staff of the College in the offer and development of programs, under the direction of the Principal of the College.
  10. Assist in managing the budget of the Leadership Centre.

Qualifications:

  1. Background in the Reformed tradition is preferred (either The Presbyterian Church in Canada or a denomination of the World Communion of Reformed Churches) and experience working with those of other denominational traditions.
  2. Pastoral or congregational leadership experience.
  3. Demonstrated leadership experience in diverse contexts.
  4. Evidence of competence in teaching, not necessarily in the academic setting.
  5. Experience in the development and/or implementation of diverse curricula.
  6. Record of effective program management.
  7. Record of successful and collaborative work within a team context.
  8. Experience with, or evident capacity to learn, relevant software or web platforms, including Wordpress, Populi, Microsoft Office, iMovie, etc…
  9. Degree in theology, whether MDiv, ThM, or higher
  10. Ability to communicate in French (spoken and written) considered an asset.

Compensation will be commensurate with experience, with a pay range of $57-$65,000.
