The 157th Convocation of The Presbyterian College, Montreal

The Presbyterian College is excited to announce that it will host its 157th Convocation in person on Thursday, June 6th, 2024. Each year we look forward to this opportunity to celebrate a new class of graduates, as well as gather with other members of The Presbyterian College community. We hope to see you there!

Convocation Speaker

REV. DR. DAVID MILLER will serve as Convocation speaker this year. David grew up in central Pennsylvania but has lived in Quebec for most of his adult life—both in Quebec City and in Montreal. David serves as Professor of Systematic Theology at the École de Théologie Évangelique du Quebec (ETEQ) and as director of its Study Centre for Service, Peace and Reconciliation. The Rev. Miller grew up in the Lutheran Tradition and now serves as pastor of ’Église évangélique de Ste-Rose, which is a community of the Frères mennonites in Quebec. We look forward to David’s sharing at Convocation.

Honours to be Granted

MRS. DONNA MCILVEEN will receive the inaugural Principal’s Award, for Faithful Service and Distinguished Leadership. Donna graduated from Ewart College in 1982 and was designated as a Diaconal Minister in 1983. Over past years has served the Presbyterian Church in Canada and local communities diligently, faithfully, and creatively. She has served in a whole variety of roles, including as Director of Christian Education, Administrator and Treasurer for the Order of Diaconal Ministries, in regular pulpit supply, on the Senate of The Presbyterian College, and on other denominational committees. Many of us know Donna from her roles as Clerk of Synod of Quebec and Eastern Ontario and as Clerk of the Presbytery of Seaway-Glengarry, for more than twenty years.

REV. IAN FRASER will be granted the Doctor of Divinity degree (honoris causa) for his diligent, creative, and faithful service in pastoral ministry. For more than thirty years Ian served in pastoral ministry at St. Columba-by-the-Lake Presbyterian Church in Montreal. His ministry there was marked by gifted preaching, his creative approach to Sunday Worship, his capacity to draw volunteers into the ministry and life of the church, his spearheading of a food security mission for the church, and his welcoming spirit in relation to all. Ian has also served capably and faithfully as a supervisor of ministry students, as an Interim Minister, as a Coach for the New Beginnings Program of the PCC, and on various denominational committees. We are delighted to honour Ian with the Doctor of Divinity (honoris causa).
